#1 What would your life look like if you committed to one small thing, every week, for a year?

Mar 17 / James

Welcome to the first edition of Eudaimonia Weekly.

It’s not my first LinkedIn article.  It’s actually the 5th.  I published my first in November 2023, and published my 4th and last in December 2023.  Yeah, I didn’t follow through.

What If I followed through?  What if I continued writing an article every week from the first published article on 22nd November 2023 until now?

I did the maths.  If I followed through with writing one article every week, then this would have been my 70th article.

When I first reflected on this number and the potential positive impact, I sure did metaphorically kick myself.

"Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out"

Oh, do I wish I had remembered this quote from Robert Collier. The positive impact of continued small efforts. Day by day, week by week.

Positive impact to create a community.  Positive impact on followers and connections.  To have powerful conversations.  Playing with creativity, sharing ideas and thoughts, and having a lot more content to write a book perhaps.

But I didn’t follow through, and there’s nothing that can be done.

We can never go back.

We can only focus on accepting what is, and taking action to create an intentional future.  The future will come whether you like it or not, you may as well have some part to play in designing it.

Why Eudaimonia weekly?

Well, the weekly part is pretty self-explanatory.

Have you heard the term Eudaimonia?

Over the years, I have become more and more interested in aspects of Greek philosophy.  Not quite as much as Ryan Holiday.  His books are excellent.

Eudaimonia comes from a Greek concept of true flourishing and well-being.  My understanding is that there are a few translations. One being

“Living in accordance with one’s true self”

Eudaimonia goes deeper than surface-level contentment.  It represents a life of meaning, fulfilment and actualisation of one’s fullest potential.  It is the state of living with purpose, aligning actions with core values, and continuously evolving into the best version of yourself.

When I heard that, I thought…wow!  How completely amazing.   I also thought, we don’t do we.

We don’t always live to our fullest potential.  We don’t always live with purpose.  We don’t always align our actions with our core values, and we constantly get lost.

There are so much complexities in why we don’t.  Individual trauma, collective trauma, current trauma and abuse, poverty, bullying and violence and more.

It’s not all in our heads.  We are born to absorb information and be influenced.  The worry is when we are influenced by the wrong people, sometimes a whole society and influenced in the wrong direction.

As much as I would love to focus on this, I believe it’s more helpful to focus on what we can control, and I believe we can control more than we think we can.  For me, my aim for Eudaimonia weekly is to focus on a life led by clarity, resilience and purpose as defined by you.  The qualities that drive meaningful, lasting success, again, defined by you.

Why did I choose Eudaimonia for this newsletter:

It aligns perfectly with my mission as a coach.  To help individuals uncover their full potential and lead a life of purpose.  Just like the ancient philosophers emphasised, I believe that true success comes not from external achievements alone, but from deep inner fulfilment.  However, this does require work, deep reflection, a change of perspective, and bold action.

Each edition will challenge you with a powerful question, provoke thoughtful reflection and offer actionable insights.

And to start, I can't think of a better set of questions:

What are you not following through with?

Have you dropped the ball and really wish you would pick it back up again?

Is it worth waiting a year before you do?

Will you stay consistent?

I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments, what’s one thing you’re committing to follow through on this week...and next week, and the week after...?

Have questions or thoughts about today’s reflection? Feel free to contact me directly.

Wishing you a week filled with clarity and bold action. Take care, and I’ll see you in the next edition!
